The secret behind the successful record of Albatros in the competition
Up till now the Albatros teams are performing very well in the competition. Six out of eight women teams are (almost) leading their group and all five men teams are in positions one or two. It’s way too early of course to celebrate any final results, as we are only half way the season (H1 and D1 even at a quarter), but it makes me wonder what could be the reasons behind this successful performance. Coincidence? I don’t think so. I can think of two or maybe three reasons: during the corona period we managed to maintain our governmental and technical cadre (especially the trainers); besides, we continued to play (in training and beach volleyball) during this whole period – as one of the few volleyball clubs here in Amsterdam; finally, Albatros consciously decided to refrain from putting teams on higher levels than before, even though the new registration system allowed for that. Personally, I think the most important aspect was the fact that we continued as long as possible to train in small groups and consequently played a lot of beach volleyball this summer, but I’m curious to find out what other think about this. So if you want to react, please do. Albatros teams were performing well also before the corona period and I don’t want to argue that we are generally playing better now, but apparently the decline was bigger with other volleyball clubs in Amsterdam. So I think it’s important, given the new restrictions coming up, that we continue to train and play as much as possible – of course without taking unnecessary health risks for our players!
